Narine Sultanyan (BSN ’25): Presenting at the Sigma International Nursing Congress
2 min read
I embarked on an exciting journey eight months ago as a novice professional nurse. Upon discovering the nursing research world, I delved into articles and received guidance from my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) faculty members, Talin Gulgulian and Adena Alahverdian. They encouraged me to participate in the 35th Nursing Research Congress of Sigma, an international nursing excellence association, for which we submitted the abstract entitled “Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) Module with Video-assisted Debriefing to Enhance Knowledge and Skill Retention of Healthcare Professionals.” The abstract was based on a research study by Talin Gulgulian, Lecturer in the BSN program. To my delight, Sigma International accepted it. Despite the virtual format, I felt a strong sense of responsibility toward my team and University. Connecting with seasoned nurse researchers and fellow beginners during the Congress was an invaluable experience, driving me forward in my professional path. I eagerly anticipate further success in my research endeavors.
During the virtual Congress, held from August 6 to 8, I had the opportunity to present my poster as a rising star in nursing. It was my first time participating in such an event, and I found it fascinating to explore various approaches to nursing education, leadership, and problem-solving. The live Q&A session allowed participants to engage with each other, ask questions, and delve deeper into the subject matter. Overall, the well-organized virtual Congress provided a rich learning experience.
Post-conference, I shared my experience and the knowledge I had gained with fellow BSN students, hoping it would motivate them and encourage them to participate in international nursing conferences in the future.
I extend heartfelt gratitude to the Sigma organizers for orchestrating this remarkable event, providing nurses worldwide with the chance to share their research and acquire fresh knowledge and skills. Equally deserving of thanks are my professors, Gulgulian and Alahverdian — as well as the AUA community at large — who supported me tirelessly throughout this journey.
Gulgulian shared: “Narine Sultanyan is an aspiring enthusiastic student, who has overcome all challenges set before her. Academically and professionally as a nurse, she is a role model and takes risks in acquiring new knowledge and skills. She boldly applied herself to research efforts, with faculty guidance, as a result of which she presented an oral poster at the 35th Research Congress through the world-renowned nursing excellence association Sigma Theta Tau. She is truly a rising star and will advance the art and science of the nursing profession in Armenia.”
