Within the Public Health Seminar Series on January 19 th 2010 the College of Health Sciences hosted Professor Mark McCarthy, MB, BChir, PhD, FRCP. He presented about chronic disease control and health impact assessment using the example of the London Olympics 2012.
Dr. McCarthy is a Professor of Public Health and honorary consultant in public health medicine in the department of Epidemiology and Public Health, University College London. He graduated from Cambridge University and University College London, received his MSc (social medicine) degree from London 
School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and PhD (social administration) from London School of Economics. He led an international medical relief team in Beirut, Lebanon, has been advisor to the ministries of Health in Iraq and Jordan. He has also worked with the World Health Organization European Region and the European Commission.
Professor McCarthy’s research interests are on the application of public health knowledge in urban settings, including chronic disease control, organization of health systems, collaboration between health and local authorities, and has a special interest in transport and health.
