From September 3-9, American University of Armenia (AUA) Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health (SPH) Senior Researcher Dr. Arusyak Harutyunyan (MPH ‘09) participated in the 2017 European Regional Tobacco Control Leadership Program hosted by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) in Kiev, Ukraine, for which she was nominated and competitively selected.
The JHSPH Institute for Global Tobacco Control (IGTC) developed the Tobacco Control Leadership Program in collaboration with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Europe and in consultation with other partners including the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use. Financial support for the program comes from Bloomberg Philanthropies. The Leadership Program is a one-week in-depth program focusing on building capacity to develop effective tobacco control policy and interventions. It includes a myriad of tobacco control topics including policy development, advocacy, communications, implementation and evaluation, and management and leadership. The program is broadly structured around the components of the World Health Organization’s MPOWER package of tobacco control interventions. Participating faculty members are regional and international experts in tobacco control policy, economics, communications, advocacy, and research & evaluation.
Dr. Arusyak Harutyunyan joined the Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR) in 2008. She is currently leading tobacco control projects of the CHSR.
The AUA Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health works actively to improve population health and health services in Armenia and the region through interdisciplinary education and development of public health professionals to be leaders in public health, health services research and evaluation, and health care delivery and management.
