Internship Experiences in the Sixth MPH Poster Conference

YEREVAN, Armenia – On November 25, 2019, second-year students of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program of the American University of Armenia (AUA)’s Turpanjian School of Public Health (SPH) delivered poster presentations describing their internship experiences in various public health organizations. This was the sixth poster conference organized for MPH students. Dr. Tsovinar Harutyunyan is the internship coordinator of SPH.

Internship sites have included the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia (RA); Fund for Armenian Relief; National Electronic Healthcare Operator (ԱՐՄԵԴ); Garo Meghrigian Institute for Preventive Ophthalmology and Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR) of SPH; Jinishian Memorial Foundation; National Institute of Health named after Academician S. Avdalbekyan; Hematology Center after Professor R. Yeolyan; Nork-Marash Medical Center; Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF), India; and National Institute of Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT), India.

At the poster conference, SPH faculty and researchers, representatives of internship organizations, MPH students and alumni, and other guests were asked to vote for the best poster. Student Yogeshwaran Jaishankar received the highest number of votes in this round. Aside from that, the poster committee of experts, comprising SPH faculty and researchers, selected the best poster after approaching each student and asking questions about their respective internship projects. The committee’s choice went to the posters by Anna Isahakyan and Manushak Avagyan. Dr. Harutyunyan presented small gifts to all three winners.

The Public Health Internship program was added to the MPH curriculum with the objective of providing students with an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge, ideas, and skills acquired in the classroom to real-world public health practice, and to network with public health professionals.

All the posters are available in the MPH poster book.
