From Robust To Anti-Fragile: A New Dimension for Health (Public Health Seminar in October)

AUA School of Public Health organized a public health seminar with Dr. Haroutune Armenian.

Dr. Armenian focused his presentation on the topic “From Robust to Anti-fragile: a New Dimension for Health” where he described the paradigm shift that pays more attention to building a better state of health or, using Nassim N. Taleb’s vocabulary, ANTIFRAGILE. AUA students, alumni, researchers and faculty, representatives of government and non-governmental health agencies attended the presentation (about 40 participants).

 

AUA School of Public Health Hosts 10th Annual Osteoporosis Symposium 

YEREVAN, Armenia – Over the past ten years, Dr. Bilezikian, Professor of Medicine and Vice-Chair for International Education and Research at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, has organized annual symposiums designed to provide doctors and other health care professionals with the most up-to-date information about osteoporosis. The meetings have grown enormously, beginning as a small conference ten years ago with about 100 participants to the meeting on October 6 that virtually filled the Large Auditorium of the American University of Armenia with around 600 health professionals. The TSPH co-hosted this international symposium.

 

Third MPH Poster Conference Showcases Public Health Internship Experiences

In December 2016, the second-year Master of Public Health (MPH) students from Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health (SPH) delivered poster presentations describing their internship experiences at various public health related organizations in Armenia. This was the third poster conference organized for the MPH students. Dr. Tsovinar Harutyunyan is the internship coordinator. Around 50 people attended the event including students, researchers, faculty, and internship preceptors from partnering organizations.

 

Minister of Health Visits AUA Gerald & Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health

On February 18, 2017, the RA Minister of Health Dr. Levon Altunyan and Chief of Staff Dr. Nelson Zuloyan visited the American University of Armenia (AUA) Gerald & Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health (SPH). AUA President Armen Der Kiureghian and SPH Dean Varduhi Petrosyan greeted the Minister and the Chief of Staff, and gave a tour of the AUA facilities. SPH faculty and researchers then gave a presentation on the results of environmental health projects conducted in the last couple of years: Rapid Risk Assessment of 25 Communities Located Near Hazardous Waste Sites; Detailed Risk Assessment of 11 Communities Located Near Metal Mining and Smelting activities; Measurement of Blood Lead Levels of Children from Alaverdi, Akhtala, and the Erebuni district of Yerevan; Akhtala Community Empowerment Project; Reproductive Health of Women Living in the Smelter Town Alaverdi, and the Draft National Action Plan.
